Iceberg is an Adams 52 and was launched in 1992 as a performance racing yacht for the Sydney – Hobart Race. She competed in 4 Sydney to Hobarts including the infamous 1993 race where 63% of the boats retired and 2 yachts sank. She placed fifth that year. She also placed 2nd in the 1993 Sydney to Gold Coast Classic Race. Her home port was Sydney and 1998 she moved to the Whitsundays and raced in several Hamilton Island races. During this time, she started her new career as a Charter Boat catering to the international backpacker market.
In late 2016 Peter and Kathie purchased Iceberg and bought her to Manly, Queensland. Requiring some TLC and a galley refit she started her newest adventure sailing across the waters of Moreton Bay in late 2017.
Has been a local resident all her life and always enjoyed living by the bay. When she met Peter 21 years ago he showed her how much fun being on the water and sailing was.
She has done many nautical miles cruising up and down the Brisbane River where she worked as a deckhand.
Early in 2018 she obtained her Coxswain qualification.
Peter and Kathie love sailing, it is their passion. They delight in sharing Iceberg, their nautical knowledge, and local history of the bay with all their guests. Their wish is that every voyage ignites in their guest a love and passion for all things sailing.
Peter started sailing on Moreton Bay at the age of 3 years old under the guidance of his Grandfather, Sir Vernon Christie. This was the beginning of a life-long love of boats and all things related. He completed a Bachelor of Science, in Environmental Studies before gaining his Marine Qualifications of Master Class 4, MED 2, and YA Yacht Master.
Peter has mastered many vessels over his career and sailed offshore between Cairns and Sydney. He loves sharing his extensive marine knowledge and was Principal of CYMS Sailing School, a TAFE Teacher (Commercial Marine Studies) and Boat Safe Examiner.
We are located at 1 Wyvernleigh Close, Manly, QLD 4179.
We recommend parking in the large car park on Fairlead Cresent and walking back towards Wyvernleigh Close. It is at the end of the close that you will find the William Gunn Jetty. The jetty is not on Google maps or Apple maps but we promise it's there!
We depart the pontoon situated behind the Wynnum Manly Visitor Information Centre.
